Is your horse's gait just not quite right?
Maybe your horse paces or the gait gets rougher as speed increases.
Maybe you can get a good gait sometimes, but you can't seem to keep it.
Or you're getting conflicting advice and aren't sure what your horse needs.
A good gait isn't about one trick.
Its about about understanding why your horse moves the way it does - and knowing how to change it.
Experience you can put in the saddle.
For more than 40 years Susan Brown has worked with both horses and riders - with decades devoted to understanding and training smooth-gaited horses.
At Legacy Horse Ranch, the goal goes beyond simply getting a horse to gait. Training develops the foundation underneath the gait - responsiveness, balance, straightness, rhythm and communication between horse and rider.
Because ultimately, the rider needs to know how to produce the results once the horse goes home.

HOW OUR TRAINING WORKS
The Legacy Ranch Approach
Our goal is simple: develop calm, reliable horses that are a pleasure to ride. Training focuses on relaxation, clear communication, and correct movement—so your horse becomes responsive, confident, and consistent.
Whether you’re starting a young horse or dealing with issues like tension, inconsistency, or lack of control—you’re in the right place. We focus on building a strong foundation from the beginning—or rebuilding it when things haven’t gone as planned.
FOUNDATIONAL TRAINING FOR
HORSE & RIDER
The Sight → Sound → Feel Method
First, riders first learn to see the footfall pattern from the ground by watching the two legs closest to them. Next, they learn to hear the rhythm of the gait. Finally, they develop the feel of correct movement under saddle. This approach helps riders recognize and maintain a smooth, balanced gait.
